Protect Our Watersheds Connecticut (POWCT) formed in early 2016 in New Britain Connecticut. We are a grass roots citizen group from New Britain, Plainville, Southington and surrounding towns.
POWCT's immediate goal is to stop the proposed expansion of the existing Tilcon quarry into New Britain-owned watershed land on Bradley Mountain in Plainville, Connecticut. This quarry expansion would permanently destroy 131 acres of Class I & Class II watershed land that is currently protected under state law. If approved by our state legislators, changing this law or allowing an exception to it will jeopardize our water supplies and threaten Connecticut's watershed lands with future development and contamination.
